Internship Programme, 2026

We are pleased to announce that the Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art, and Culture (ABILAC), Assam, will be conducting an Internship Programme for Undergraduate students (Under NEP, 2020) in accordance with UGC norms. This comprehensive Internship Programme, designed as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) is scheduled from 6th July, 2026 to 31st July, 2026 at the ABILAC Campus, Rajaduar , North Guwahati. Certificates will be distributed on 4th August, 2026

This internship will cover a variety of key areas, fostering practical skills and insights that will be beneficial for students’ academic and professional journeys. The probable key areas are

1.  Protection and Preservation of Indigenous Language of NE India

2. Language  Technicalities and Language Technology.

3. Cultural  Tourism and Steps to be Tourist Guide.

4. Library Management

5. Dictionary Preparation

6. Communicative Sanskrit

ABILAC will provide lunch and Tea to the selected Interns and will undertake one day tour for them within Guwahati city.

The interested candidate after selection will have to deposit to the coordinator for their Examination, hand outs and certificate Rs. 500 only. There will be a written examination and the certificates will be given on the basis of the performance of the Examination and the attendance record. The candidates will be selected on the priority basis.

ABILAC celebrated the 176th Birth Anniversary of  the Great Sanskrit Scholar Anundoram Borooah

Anundoram Borooah Award-2025

Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture (ABILAC) celebrated the 176th Birth Anniversary of  the Great Sanskrit Scholar Anundoram Borooah and  organised the Anundoram Borooah Award  giving  ceremony on 21st May, 2026 at the Phanidhar Dutta Seminar Hall of Gauhati University.

The celebration featured a compelling lecture delivered by Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Rana Pratap Kalita, Honourable Chairperson, Pragjyotishpur University, who artfully highlighted Borooah’s significant contributions to Sanskrit and Indology. He has pointed out how the ideology of Anundoram Borooah can be connected with the inquisitive learning process of the students of today’s world.

The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Nirmalya Narayan Chakraborty, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of Presidency University, Kolkata and the Chairperson of ICPR, Delhi as the Special Guest. He eloquently emphasized the profound connection between the Indian Knowledge System and Borooah’s scholarly works inspiring the entire audience. Prof. Chakraborty has handed over to the Director, ABILAC the copy of the list of the names of the First Class holders of 1869-70 graduation batch of Presidency College where Anundoram Borooah’s name was etched.

Furthermore, the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award 2025 was proudly presented to distinguished Sanskrit scholar, Prof. (Retd.) Rajendra Nath Sarma, a testament to ABILAC’s commitment to recognizing excellence in the field.

In tandem with the celebration, the 15th volume of the ‘Anandam’, a UGC. The CARE-listed journal and the book ‘Bakyartha Bodh’ (the first ABILAC edition) by Acharya Manoranjan Shastri were officially launched by the distinguished guest at the meeting.

Asomiya Omala Geet is a collection of Assamese play songs and nursery rhymes collected and edited by Professor Dipti Phukon Patgiri and published by ABILAC in the year 2020. This book consists of a good number of play songs and nursery rhymes collected during a field study by the compilers. Most of these play songs and rhymes are collected from undivided Darrang, Undivided Kamrup and Undivided Goalpara districts of Assam along wih the ones available in standard Assamese language. In its preface the complier Prof. Phukon Patgiri has presented a brief and valuable discussion on the definition, nature and value of such play songs which are gradually disappearing due to various obvious reasons. She has stressed on the preservation of such relics and cosiders this compilation is an important step towards that. This book consists of 112 pages.

Mising Navajagaranar Udgata Asom Gaurav Tabu Taid is a book on life and works of Professor Taburam Taid, edited by Homen Borgohain as the Chief editor and Dr. Milan Neog and Dr. Sadananda Paten as editors and published by ABILAC in the year 2021. This book presents a comprehensive description of the life and the valuable works of Taburam Taid. The chapters have been mainly divided into four categories viz. about his life, his creative works, his personality and interviews. Apart from these, there are three appendices included into this book. Each the main categories comprise of valuable articles written by people who have had experience of either personally knowing or have knowledge about the tremendous amount of literary and administrative contribution of Taburam Taid to the Assamese literature as well as towards the holistic development of the Mising community. The book comprises of 488 pages and 18 pages of photographic presentation at the end.
