Observation of 28th Death Anniversary of Professor Praphulladatta Goswami

ABILAC and Asom Janakristi Samaj jointly observes the 28th death anniversary of the doyen of folklore in India Professor Praphulladatta Goswami on the 19th of November, 2021 at the premises of ABILAC at Rajaduar. Apart from being an erudite scholar in the field of Folklore, Prof. Goswami, was also played vital roles in the establishment of various academic institutes and centers in the state. He was the Vice chairman of the Governing Council and Chairman of the Executive committee of ABILAC.

This occasion was observed by holding an academic program presided by Dr. Prabin Chandra Das, President, Asom Janakristi Samaj. Prof. Dilip Kumar Kalita, Director, ABILAC, in his welcome speech briefly shed light on the significance of the day.

Prof. Noni Gopal Mahanta, Education Advisor to the Chief Minister of Assam graced this occasion as the chief guest and delivered a lecture focusing on the life and works of Prof. Goswami. He also inaugurated 10th volume of the research journal of ABILAC titled ‘Anandam Journal of Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture, Assam’ on this occasion.

Prof. Abani Kr. Bhagawati from the department of Geography, Gauhati University delivered the Praphulladatta Goswami Memorial Lecture on the thought-provoking topic ‘The Brahmaputra Valley of Assam: Nature and Tradition.’ In his lecture Prof. Bhagawati deliberated on the nature and contours of the great river Brahmaputra and stressed on the need of clinging to the basics of life in order to leave a more secure and healthy environment to the future generation. He also discussed about how our age old traditions and beliefs has it roots in the nature.

Distinguished anthropologist Prof. A.N.M. Irshad Ali also hailed Prof. Praphulladatta Goswami’s stupendous feat in and contribution to the field of Folklore studies and other allied disciplines. Dr. Paramananda Majumdar, literary critic also in his lecture focused on the contribution of Prof. Goswami on Folk literature. This program was also graced by Mr. Bhaskardatta Goswami, son of Prof. Praphulladatta Goswami. In his speech Mr. Goswami briefly deliberated on his fond memories of his great father.

Dr. Parismita Sarma sang Saraswati Vandana on this occasion.

A troop of disciples led by Atul Bhuyan from Auniati Satra performed Satriya dance on this occasion.

Anundoram Borooah Award

ABILAC confers the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award for 2018 to Prof. (Late) Tabu Ram Taid

On the auspicious occasion of Teachers’ Day, on the 5th September, 2021, ABILAC presented its prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award for the year 2018 to Prof. Tabu Ram Taid. The award was presented by the Hon’ble minister of Health and Family welfare, Govt. of Assam Sri Kesab Mahanta in the presence of the Hon’ble Education minister, Govt. of Assam Dr. Ranoj Pegu and other dignitaries at the Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium which was received by Mrs. Basanti Taid in the unfortunate absence of Prof. Taid.

ABILAC announced the name of Prof. Tabu Ram Taid as the recipient of this award for the year 2018 on 21st May, 2019. Prof. Taid was not only an erudite scholar in the field of language and culture but also the founder director of the Institute and subsequently the Vice-Chairman of the Governing Council and Chairman of the Executive Committee of ABILAC. Though the award was declared on 21st of May 2019 scheduled to be presented towards the end of the year, he left for his heavenly abode on 17th of August, 2019.

The Anundoram Borooah Award was instituted by ABILAC in the hallowed memory of the great Sanskrit Scholar and Civilian Anundoram Borooah in the year 1991 to be awarded annually to a scholar who sets hight standards of excellence in the fields of Sanskrit and allied Indological Studies, Literary and Linguistic studies and study in Art and Culture. The award consists of Rs. One Lakh, a citation written in the Sanskrit language, a shawl and recent publications of ABILAC.

Anundoram Borooah Award, 2017 to Prof. Birendranath Datta

Noted folklorist, singer and composer Prof. Birendranath Datta has been awarded with the prestigious Anundoram Borooah award for 2017 instituted by the research institute ABILAC on the 21st of September, 2018. This award was presented to the Prof. Datta by the Minister of Education, Assam and the Chairman of the Governing Council, ABILAC. This award comprises of a cash amount of Rupees One Lakh, a citation, bundle of books and a Seleng sador. Dr. Birendranath Datta pursued his Ph.D on the folksongs of Goalpara under the guidance of the Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami. He has been awarded the prestigious title of Padmashree by the government of India for his valuable contribution towards the field of Folklore studies. He has also contributed towards the repository of Assamese literature as lyricist and singer. He started his career as a lecturer in the B. Borooah college and went on to teach in the Pandu college. He taught in the department of Traditional Culture Art Form in the Tezpur Central University. He has also formerly role of President of Asom Sahitya Sabha.

Anundoram Borooah Award, 2016 to Dr. Naren Kalita

ABILAC confers the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award for the year 2016 to the renowned researcher of sculpture and scholar of Vaishnava culture Dr. Naren Kalita on the 9th of December, 2017 at a function held at the Khagen Mahanta Auditorium situated in Nagaon. Honourable Education Minister, Assam, and Chairman of the Governing Council of ABILAC Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma who graced this occasion, presented the award comprising of a cheque of Rupees One Lac, one citation,  and a bundle of books published by ABILAC was presented to the erudite scholar.

Celebration of the 170th Birth anniversary of Pandit Anundoram Borooah in ABILAC, North Guwahati

Amidst the prevailing lockdown in the country, the staff of ABILAC observes the 170th birth centenary of Pandit Anundoram Borooah at the headquarter in North Guwahati. Due to prevailing situation, this occasion was observed with minimum indulgence and by following all the safety measures as advised by the concerned authority in the country. On this occasion Prof. Dilip kumar Kalita, Director, ABILAC while conveying his gratitude to the great Sanskrit scholar Anundoram Borooah deliberated on the valuable contribution of the scholar to the academic world within his rather short lifetime. Due to the prevailing situation the institute could not publish its annual journal ‘Anandam’. The institute also has postponed the announcement of the name of the recipient of the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award which is instituted by ABILAC and generally presented to a scholar making outstanding contribution to the field Language, Art and Culture. These pending works will be accomplished as soon as situation dies down to normalcy.

Celebration of 169th birth anniversary of Pandit Pravar Anundoram Borooah

The 169th Birth Anniversary of renowned Indologist and great scholar Anundoram Borooah is celebrated in a meeting by ABILAC at the auditorium of its Head office situated at Rajaduar, North Guwahati on the 21st of May, 2018. This occasion was graced by the honourable Satradhikar of Auniati Satra Dr. Pitambar Devagoswami who hailed the academic prowess of the great pandit Anundoram Borooah and stressed on imbibing his scholarly spirit by the present day research scholars. This occasion was also graced by the distinguished Sanskrit pandit Prof. Ashok Kumar Goswami as the chair of the meeting. Dr, Rajendranath Sarma, former Professor of Gauhati University spoke as the distinguished speaker on this occasion and stressed on the academic publications of Anundoram Borooah.  Other distinguished scholars who graced this occasion were, Prof. Dipti Phukon Patgiri, distinguished folklorist Dr. Nabin Ch. Sarma, Dr. Rabin Devchoudhury, former director, National Museum, educationist Paresh Bora and many others. The name of Eminent linguist and scholar Late Tabu Ram Taid as the recipient of the prestigious Anundoram Borooah Award was also announced on this occasion.

Celebration of 168th birth anniversary of Pandit Pravar Anundoram Borooah

The 168th Birth Anniversary of renowned Indologist and great scholar Anundoram Borooah is celebrated in a meeting by ABILAC at the auditorium of its Head office situated at Rajaduar, North Guwahati on the 21st of May, 2018. This occasion was graced by the presence of the honourable Education minister of Assam and the Chairman of the Governing Council of ABILAC Sri Siddhartha Bhattacharya. Three new publications of ABILAC namely ‘Puroni Asomor Mukutamala’, ‘Garo and its Cognate Languages’, ‘Paniniyo Astadhyayi’and the annual journal of ABILAC ‘Anandam’ were released by Sri Siddhartha Bhattachaya. A memorial lecture on the ‘Anundoram Borooahar Sanda gyan’ was delivered by distinguished scholar and retired professor of Dibrugarh Kanoi college Dr. Maheswar Hazarika.

ABILAC celebrates the 167th birth anniversary of the great Sanskrit scholar Anundoram Borooah at it office at Rajaduar, North Guwahati on the 21st of May, 2017. Honourable vice chancellor of the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit & Ancient Studies University Prof. Dipak Kumar Sarma delivered a lecture on this occasion.

161st Birth anniversary of the great Sanskrit scholar Anundoram Borooah

ABILAC observed the 161st Birth anniversary of the great Sanskrit scholar Anundoram Borooah on the 21st May, 2011 in its office premise in North Guwahati. A statue of the great pandit Anundoram Borooah newly established in the premise of ABILAC also has been formally unveiled on this occasion.

160th birth anniversary of the renowned scholar Anundoram Borooah

ABILAC observed the 160th birth anniversary of the renowned Sankritist and the great Assamese scholar Anundoram Borooah on the 21st of May, 2010 in its premise at Rajaduar in North Guwahati. 90th Birth anniversary of the noted folklorist Prafulla Dutta Goswami

ABILAC observed the 90th Birth anniversary of the noted folklorist and the founder president of the working committee of ABILAC Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami on the 18th March, 2009 in its head office in Rajaduar, North Guwahati. This occasion was marked by an engaged deliberation on the life, work and achievements of Dr. Prafulla Dutta Goswami by noted scholar and folklorist Dr. Birendranath Dutta, Dr. Nabin Ch. Sarma and distinguished linguist Dr. Pramod Ch. Bhattacharya.

159th birth anniversary of the renowned scholar Anundoram Borooah

 ABILAC observed the 159th birth anniversary of the renowned Sankritist and the great Assamese scholar Anundoram Borooah on the 21st of May, 2010 in its office premise at Rajaduar in North Guwahati. In its homage to the great Assamese scholar, among other ritualistic performances, ABILAC held a scholarly deliberation on the life, philosophy and achievements of Anundoram Borooah. Speaking on this occasion Sula Sharma, noted writer deliberated on the achievements of the great Pandit Anundoram Borooah. Prof Rajendranath Sarma from the department of Sanskrit, Gauhati University spoke about the invaluable contribution of Anundoram Borooah to the Sanskrit studies in such short span of 13 years. He mentioned that the Sanskrit-English dictionary compiled by Borooah is a great contribution to the world literature.  

157thbirth anniversary of the renowned scholar Anundoram Borooah

ABILAC in collaboration with Public Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee pays glowing tribute to the globally recognised Assamese scholar and great Sanskritist Anundoram Borooah on his 157th birth anniversary at its office premise at Rajaduar, North Guwahati on the 21st of May, 2007. ABILAC has been observing this day with great zeal to commemorate the peerless intellect and scholarly contribution of Anundoram Borooah to the field of Sanskrit studies. This auspicious occasion was graced by the VC, Gauhati University and noted poet Prof Amarjyoti Choudhury, Dr. Malini Goswami, Head Dept of Assamese, Prof. (Retd) Asok Goswami along with Prof. Tabu Ram Taid and others. Each of the speakers, on this occasion highlighted and acknowledged profound scholarship of Mr Borooah in the field of Sanskrit studies.
