| Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture, Assam (ABILAC) achieved yet another remarkable milestone by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Assamese and the Department of English, Dibrugarh University, on 19th December 2025 at the Dibrugarh University campus. This landmark collaboration marks a powerful step towards consolidating academic excellence, interdisciplinary studies, and research-driven engagement, particularly in the fields of language documentation, literary studies, cultural preservation, and translation. The MoU represents more than just a formal agreement; it symbolizes a shared vision between ABILAC and Dibrugarh University to strengthen Northeast India’s linguistic and cultural landscape. | One of the most important dimensions of this MoU is its emphasis on the protection and promotion of endangered languages of Northeast India. The region is home to a large number of indigenous languages, many of which are at various stages of endangerment due to shrinking speaker populations, socio-political challenges, and lack of adequate documentation. Through this collaboration, ABILAC and Dibrugarh University will work towards systematic documentation, archiving, description, and revitalization initiatives that will not only help preserve linguistic heritage but also strengthen community identity and cultural continuity. Alongside linguistic documentation, Translation Studies forms another crucial pillar of this partnership. The MoU will facilitate academic exchange and collaborative efforts in translating important literary, cultural, and knowledge texts across Assamese, English, and indigenous languages. This will open new avenues for intercultural dialogue, wider readership, and academic engagement, while also helping to create accessible knowledge resources for students and the general public. Furthermore, the agreement envisions fruitful engagements in comparative literature, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary humanities research, enabling scholars to explore new questions, methodologies, and intellectual possibilities. The MoU also highlights opportunities for exchange of resource persons, joint supervision of research work, visiting lectures, and expert talks. Faculty members from the concerned departments of Dibrugarh University and ABILAC will be able to collaborate closely, share expertise, and enrich each other’s academic environments.
