In pursuance of the Cabinet decision of the Government of Assam, the Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture (ABILAC) has undertaken a noble and culturally significant initiative to translate Ajan Pir’s Zikir and Jaris into various indigenous languages of Assam. The translation work is being carried out through a five-day workshop held at the Conference Hall, Gauhati University Guest House, from 11th to 15th November 2025. The workshop brings together participants representing the Tiwa, Rabha, Bodo, Deori, Mising, and Karbi language communities, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the state.
Eminent scholars, including Prof. M. Kamaluddin Ahmed, Head, Department of Assamese, Gauhati University; Prof. Bibha Bharali, Head, Department of Linguistics and Professor, Department of Assamese, Gauhati University; and Dr. Abu Bakkar Siddiqui, Head, Department of Arabic, Gauhati University, have been invited as expert resource persons for this initiative. The workshop is being conducted under the academic supervision of Prof. Ahmed and other distinguished experts.
In addition, research scholars from the Departments of Assamese and Arabic are actively contributing to the translation process, lending scholarly depth and linguistic precision to this pioneering work. This collaborative effort marks an important step toward fostering cross-cultural understanding and preserving Assam’s composite linguistic and spiritual heritage through the power of translation.
